Pregnancy Diet

Fruits
FIGS · Those who eat figs during pregnancy do not suffer from prolonged labor and weakness after childbirth. · Use dry figs for snacks. However the fresh ones are the best. · Bible and koran and some other religious books praise the medicinal benefits of Figs. The Hindu God, Brahma, the God of creator's holy tree is Fig tree. Therefore during creation (before and during pregnancy) eating figs is very good.

APPLE · Palpitation, fainting episodes, anemia during pregnancy, neurasthenia and in tuberculosis can be cured by apple medicine. Make apple milk shake with honey, soy milk or cow's milk, cardamom powder of one pod.

BANANA · It gives folic acid during pregnancy and prevents megaloblastic anemia. It tones up uterus, strengthens fetus, and eases childbirth. Eating everyday banana is very good.

DATES · Its regular use during the entire period of pregnancy helps the growth of baby and eases childbirth. The best tonic is to mix almonds and dates with honey and eat every day. The child will be very healthy, having good memory and intelligence.

LIME · Limejuice with honey is a cooling drink and stops nauseating feeling and vomiting in pregnancy or in in-digestion of food. Drinking lime juice (fresh) with honey after 5th month of pregnancy till delivery easy labor.

ORANGE · Taking orange juice during entire pregnancy helps to ease labors and prevents child and mother from postnatal infections. Eat every day an orange after lunch or best before eating dates or any iron rich food. This is because Vitamin C enhances absorption of iron and prevents anemia.

MANGO · Drinking mango juice mixed with a teaspoonful of fresh coriander leaf-juice once or twice weekly during pregnancy prevents one from fetal abnormalities, eases childbirth and prevents the post-partum complications.

PAPAYA · The green unripe fruit is rich in papaine, which is a powerful proteolytic digestive enzyme and induces abortion. So do not use green unripe papaya throughout pregnancy. However eat moderately ripe papaya during pregnancy for nourishing the body · Ripe papaya mixed with milk and honey is an excellent tonic for growing children, during pregnancy and lactation.

POMEGRANATE · A tablespoonful of the juice mixed with one spoon of honey is an excellent in bilious, nausea and vomiting, hiccup and toxemia of pregnancy. · Giving a spoon of fresh orange juice once or twice a day after first week of childbirth helps baby to grow smoothly and prevents GI disorders.


Vegetables
CAULIFLOWER · It is an ideal vegetable during pregnancy. Use organic cabbage leaves. Mince cauliflower very finely and add to yogurt and eat. · ·
BAMBOO SHOOTS · Decoction of tender bamboo shoots mixed with palm jaggery is given once or twice a day for a week to cause abortion during the first month of pregnancy. But stop that after first month and then use only in the last few weeks of childbirth. · The medicine can be used in the last month of pregnancy to induce labor. · Its use after the baby is born eases the expulsion of the placenta and prevents excessive loss of blood.

CUCUMBER · A glassful of cucumber juice mixed with honey and a teaspoonful of fresh lime juice given twice daily acts as a very effective diuretic in high-blood pressure, toxemia's of pregnancy.

OKRA · Eating okra (lady's finger) is good for the growth of the child especially after the seventh month to increase the brain growth.

BRUSSEL SPROUT · It is poor on sodium but rich in vitamin A, B1, C and potassium and good for toxemia of pregnancy. · Its believed that fresh juice mixed with honey given one hour before labor pain eases childbirth. RADDISH · Using during pregnancy gives very effective results.

Greens

AMARANTHUS · Amaranthus soup increases breast milk and tones up the liver. · Drinking amaranthus fresh juice one cup every day with honey with a pinch of cardamom during the entire period of pregnancy helps the normal growth of the baby. · The above is an excellent preparation, but if one does not like the taste of raw juice, then briefly boil the juice and add salt and spices and make a soup. It acts as a tonic and increases the breast milk.

LETTUCE · During pregnancy and lactation, lettuce has very important nutritional factor folic acid, which prevents birth defects. Eating lettuce regularly by pregnant women prevents nutritional anemias and habitual abortions. It has influence over progesterone hormones. Eat regularly lettuce salads with cucumber and apple cider vinegar.

DRUM-STICK LEAVES · Its regular use during pregnancy and lactation helps mother and child to get extra calcium, iron, and vitamins.

GARDEN CRESS · A cupful of fresh juice with a teaspoonful of lime juice and a pinch of common salt taken every morning fort a month acts as a nature's wonderful medicine to prevent and cure iron deficiency anemias, general weakness during pregnancy and lactation.

SPINACH · Regular use also supplies iron, vitamin A and folic acid and prevents megaloblastic anemia in pregnancy, especially as raw. Use in salads and in sandwiches.

Grains and legumes

MILLET (RAGI) · If given during pregnancy, there is no fear of pregnancy anemias, delayed labor due to uterine inertia and other post-partum complications, osteomalacia etc. · Eating roasted green millet is a tonic for high blood pressure, diabetes, liver diseases, nervousness and lack of milk after childbirth.

GREEN GRAM (mung dal) · Its regular use during childhood, pregnancy, lactation helps one to get the required nutrition promote health and safe guard eyesight. Use the sprouts in salads.

Seeds and nuts

ALMONDS · Eating almonds with honey every morning is a medicine to cure weakness during pregnancy and lactation. · Paste of shelled almonds mixed with orange juice and honey is given as a tonic-food during toxemia of pregnancy.

PEANUTS · Eating fresh roasted peanuts (groundnuts) with jaggery and goat's milk is a very nutritious food during pregnancy and lactation.

COCONUT · It is used during treatment of toxemia of pregnancy with very gratifying results. · The water can be safely given in general toxemia, of pregnancy.

CASTOR SEED · It causes watery diarrhoea without causing gripping or other complications, therefore, castor oil is one of the safest purgatives that is used all over the world during infancy and childhood, during pregnancy and oldage. · Using large doses of castor oil during early months of pregnancy causes abortion therefore, it should not be used carelessly but castor oil purgative taken a week earlier than the expected delivery time helps one to go through the natural ordeal safely.

TIL SEEDS · Til seeds should not be given during the first trimester. Later eating sesame seeds in salads is very good because it supplies vitamin E.


Miscellaneous
SPICES · Decoction of cumin seeds mixed with milk and honey is used once daily during the entire period of pregnancy helps the development of baby eases childbirth and increases the secretion of breast milk. · Use of garlic is good during pregnancy. · Garlic is used as an aphrodisiac and to check abortion in early pregnancy.

COW'S MILK · Cow's milk yogurt or curd can also be used. It also eases the childbirth, keeps you healthy and prevents the post-natal complications. Avoid this if you are allergic to milk.

HONEY · It is an ideal blood-forming tonic during all the time of life, in infancy and childhood, in youth and old age and in pregnancy and lactation. Honey is particularly useful as an energy food in weak invalids suffering from debility; toxemia's of pregnancy, vomiting after general anesthesia. It is a tonic for all the iron deficiency anemia of pregnancy and childhood, breath catching syndrome in children.

NOTE The above fruits, vegetables, greens, seeds and nuts are the most preferred. This however does not means that one should avoid other foods. The best approach is to eat all different kinds of fruits and vegetables and nuts to obtain nourishment from different sources.
