Charles Darwin in the west , gave the concept of Survival of fittest, the driving force for evolution. That was a mile stone in the progress of Biology in modern science. Evolutionary theory made perfect sense when we see the biology of life. Life evolved from single cell organism to multi-cellular and finally man. The evolution was not a random process. The organism self designs through the inherent intellect because we have discussed that all knowledge comes from the field of awareness.  Intelligence  in the first organism that arose was expressed at higher dimensions as it evolved. It is an intelligent design but here we mean that there was not someone who was designing it external to the organism.

      No one externally designs, the organism has the power to design itself and evolve challenging the hostile conditions in the  environment. Vedanta says the micro-organism is also the manifestation of the Supreme Consciousness, the Brahman. Therefore the cell has all the source of intelligence inherent in it. With that intelligence it can evolve further. That inherent evolution is still continuing in human.

      Vedas tell that man has progressed through 84 million  species. This is what birth and re-birth means. A bacteria through numerous  rebirths and death has attained the state of man. The man is the last state to get free from this cycle of re-birth and death, because of his and her highly developed intellect.
