Infant
Allergies -2
A Japanese study in 1992 showed that when one group of rats were fed
with their own mother's milk and another group were fed with baby food
which had the same
composition of the mother's milk, they found that both the animal groups
grew in the same way. There was no difference. But here is the
interesting thing. They
checked the stools excreted by the rats. That was one of the difference.
They found that that breast fed rats stools had all healthy bacteria
while commercial
baby food fed had all sorts of bacteria. The stools reflect our
intestinal bacteria population. This means that commercial baby food
allow bacteria that causes
inflammation in the gut.
Next observation they found was that the rats of commercial baby food fed
increased the porosity of the intestines, talking in a lay man language.
Our intestines normally acts like a filter and allows well digested
nutrients into the blood system. Now if there is a leakage then big
proteins escapes into the blood system. What happens in protein's
escapes into the blood system?. The blood recognizes it as foreign (like
it think of a bacteria or virus) and starts to produce anti-bodies. This
causes immune reactions in the form of asthma, allergies, eczema etc.
So if through leaky intestines, lets say example if wheat proteins
escape into blood system, then infant develop allergies to wheat. This
holds good for kids developing allergies to pollen or bugs or even to
dust trapped in carpet.
Not only baby foods but exposing too much of processed foods early
in child hood causes inflammation in gut. Some baby foods
contain corn syrup as sweetening agents. Of course baby food companies
will not high light these research findings . Increase in the use of
these processed baby foods is the reason why in western countries we find people allergic to every sort of "form" in
the universe. Others are blindly following
leaving their traditional healthy practices. In most of the traditional
practices children are given less processed food sin the young age.
Example,
Ragi or African Millet is given in south India. This is very
healthy for kids because it is one of the best grain friendly for the
intestines and prevent these type of allergic responses. Try foods that
are unprocessed and contain no sweets. br>
More
interesting is that now researchers are finding evidences, that it is
the mother's milk that dictates how the intestine will develop and how
the food that we eat in early age of life dictates the bacterial
population in our intestines. They admit that there are many
bio-molecules in the mother's milk that gives signal for the intestines
to mature adequately. Take care not not to feed your baby with commercial / artificial baby-food which will alter
her/his intestinal bacteria population and also the porosity of the
intestines and increasing the risk to eczema , asthma and allergies
later in life.
