ZIZYPHUS MAURITIANA - INDIAN JUJUBE
Zizyphus jujuba - chinese JUJUBE
The fruits have emollient and expectorant properties. They are
also considered to be cooling and an anodyne and a tonic. They are
employed as an antidote to aconite poisoning and are recommended
in nausea and vomiting.
• They
contain zizyphic acid, tannin, sugar and other minerals.
• They are equally effective in the treatment of diarrhoea,
dysentery, gout, and rheumatism.
• Regular use of fruit prevents formation of gravel in the
bladder, diabetes, constipation, leucorhea and spermatorrhea.
• A teaspoonful of powder of dry fruit stops excessive
menstruation. They are also prescribed in abdominal pain during
pregnancy.
• A teaspoonful of fresh juice taken with a pinch of pepper once
daily is a remedy to prevent frequent colds and influenza.
School
Children
They are rich in memory boosting bio-active compounds and so
traditionally in India they were often sold in school premises.
Unfortunately modern
school children have access only to
unhealthy
snacks.
• It
increases the function of brain by releasing glutamic acid in the
blood. It is a very effective cheap nerve tonic and tones up
nerves. No wonder why this fruits were advised to be consumed by
school going children and pregnant women.
This plant seems effective against melanoma cells due to the
presence of betulinic acid, a growth inhibitor of cancer cells.
Indian jujube is used to cure stomach-aches, in the treatment of
syphilis, to calm intestinal irritations. Further for the
treatment of respiratory, throat, intestinal, urinary inflammation
and for constipation.’ It is helpful in liver troubles, asthma and
fever. It has sedative properties
